When I first began freelance writing, I earned over $100,000 in a little over a year. I had zero experience. However, through many trials and many errors, I found the key to making full-time income while working flexible hours. When I began freelance writing, I was studying and researching full-time for my PhD, all while balancing a husband, three daughters, and a Frenchie.

Within a few months, I began freelancing for a few other organizations. This allowed me to gain more experience, more money, and ultimately, more freedom. It was so liberating! I wasn’t dependent on a fixed 9-to-5 schedule, clocking in and out every day, hoping to make ends meet. (Let’s be real: I was making less than $40,000/year working overtime in the operating room with a four-year degree.)

I learned so much in my first year of freelance writing. But, of course, I thought I knew just about all I could about this type of work. (Newsflash, I didn’t.) As I grew and developed my freelancing skills, I made many realizations that allowed me to better navigate the stress and setbacks that inevitably happened. And because I never wanted to make the same mistake twice, I began compiling a massive list of resources and tips I learned throughout my first year. 

Over the years, friends and connections have asked me about how I got started with freelancing and stayed successful. After sharing my successes and learning curves with others, I decided to create a masterclass on freelance writing—Redefining Work: Writing My Way Out. 

All of this to say, I am giving your my insights—the wins, the failures, and everything in between! Rather than make the same mistakes I did, learn from me and do better, faster!
